on our gm:

apparently, the driver of the classic muscle car had just refurbished the vehicle. unfortunately, he'd neglected to ensure that the brakes were still working, causing him to barrel down the offramp of a highway straight into the side of the hapless sedan.

but both parties were able to walk away miraculously with mere bruises. everyone is doing well. my future cars will definitely have airbags... everywhere.

on the academy:

um...what's the purpose of the countdown and extremely long opening sequence ? ...and the annoying interviewers have started to make up their own oscar-words: "nominatable" "epical"

i'm bummed that my favorite pirate ever did not win an oscar. but i do believe that sean penn is very deserving of the little gold (and very naked) statue.

everyone who was running against lotr, didn't stand a chance. why even bother opening that silly envelope. just throw those oscars off the stage in the direction of the peter jackson party.

i'm thrilled that charlize and sofia won an oscar. but what is up with sofia's lip ? she had a strange elvis thing going...

lately, i've been very conscious of my relatives in the land of the rising sun, especially of the cousin variety. i think it's because the last time i visited they'd inquired, "so, how's the new governor working out ?" ...but in a non-your-state-is-full-of-sorry-jackasses kind of way, which is something new to me. this led me to believe that they actually think that having a governator is cool.

so i reflected, as i watched the academy awards last evening, and deemed that i've become desensitized by the glitz and glamour of hollywood. i thought of how my cousins might have reacted if they were sitting beside me in my living room.

when the nominations are announced, my first reaction is always: yikes. it's oscar season. don't want to be anywhere near hollywood right now. don't want to be caught in that traffic.

if my kin were sitting next to me however, i'd think that they'd beg me to take them into the heart of it all, into the eye of that storm.

i wondered if they'd care if i went to school with michael landon's son, alicia silverstone, or natalie wood's daughter. ...or that nicholas cage and marilyn monroe had preceded me but had walked the same halls that i had. would they care if i told them that i met courtney cox and julia louis-dreyfus at a bagel shop and almost ran straight into samuel l. jackson's massive chest at a movie premiere ?

then i thought to myself: nah...they'd just give me the polite but blank look while emitting the signature japanesey noises of faux adulation: "heeeeeh" "hmmmmmm" "hoooooh"

although, if it had been arnold or david hasselhoff that i'd run into, it'd be a different story.

hollyweird certainly has a strange effect on people.
