mommy-two's tummy is currently swollen with her second child. oddly, i have an urge to tell people that she is "quick with child".

more oddly however, is my invested curiousity of this unborn creature. being an only child, and having been brought up non-baby-savvy, i'd always been under the impression that babies are a heap of fun and sweetness, akin to puppy dogs and rainbows. i am well aware that there are the occasional brats and "difficult" children, but mostly i've clung to the more idyllic visions of child-rearing and motherhood.

so when my two coworkers began to puncture my illusion bubble with their acerbic tales of labor, floating feces in pools, ear infections, stretchmarks, and other non-flattering occurences to the body, my biological clock began to wind down considerably.

...and yet, i'd apparently made a mental note three weeks ago when i'd asked her, "so when do you get to find out the sex of your baby ?"

tomorrow, she takes the day off to have the fateful ultrasound performed, and i am giddy with anticipation. when i confirmed this with her first thing this morning, i instinctively clapped my hands with glee. puzzled with my own actions, i offered, "i really don't know why i'm so excited..." at this, she laughed a big genuine laugh and replied, "i know...i'm excited too..."

i just hope that she doesn't think that i'm an insane person who wants to steal her child...
